Alice Stevenson (10 July 1861 – 18 August 1973) was a British supercentenarian who was recognised as the oldest living person in the world from the death of 112-year-old Josefa Salas Mateo of Spain on 27 February 1973 until her own death later that year.

Biography

Stevenson was born in Piccadilly, England. She never married or had any children.

She stated on her 108th birthday that she "doesn't believe in medicine or television".[1] She became the oldest person in the UK following the death of Ada Roe on 11 January 1970.

Stevenson was the first documented person from the United Kingdom to reach the age of 112. At the time of her 112th birthday, she resided at the Brambleacres home for senior citizens, in Sutton, England.[2] Stevenson's record as the oldest British person ever lasted until 1985, when her age was surpassed by Anna Eliza Williams.[3]
