Anna Nielsen (née Olsen; 2 April 1904 – 19 June 2015) was a Danish-Canadian supercentenarian. She was the second-oldest person in Canada when she died, only behind Marguerite Wabano. Her case is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography

Anna Nielsen was born as Ane Dorthea Olsen on 2 April 1904 in Cimbria, Falslev, Nordjylland, Denmark. She married Aage Damsgaard Nielsen (1900–1989), and had the first child Betty with him, in 1923 before emigrating to New Brunswick, Canada in 1924.[1] Aage and Anna Nielsen ended up having 6 children together, 5 daughters and a son. Their son's name was Murley, who is now deceased. Their daughters were called Betty (also deceased), Molly, Norma, Joan, and Lula Hepperle, who all outlived their mother.

Anna lived in New Brunswick and Ontario until 1944, when she moved to British Columbia. Her husband Aage Nielsen passed away on 26 August 1989,[2] after 66 years of marriage. On her 110th birthday, she was living at Langley Gardens Retirement Centre.

Anna Nielsen passed away on 19 June 2015 at the age of 111 years, 78 days. She was survived by four daughters, 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-great-grandchildren.
