He is the second-oldest GRG-validated French man ever behind Maurice Floquet, although Roger Auvin, Marcel Meys, and Jules Theobald have since surpassed his age, making him the 5th oldest known French man overall. He still remains the oldest validated African-born man as of 2020.

Biography

Emile Fourcade was born in Tlemcen, French Algeria 28 July 1884. His parents were Raphael Fourcade (1843–1913) and Jeanne-Marie Verdoux (1851–1888). Fourcade was a track runner at the turn of the century and a boxing referee before taking a job of a tax inspector in Sidi-bel-Abbes, Algeria in 1915. Fourcade retired in 1940 and moved to Grenoble, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes in 1960. He married Rosalie Degeilh (1890–1977).

Emile Fourcade died at Grenoble state hospital on 29 December 1995, aged 111 years, 153 days. He was survived by the two children, Pierre and Jeanne (born 1917), who both were retired at that time and lived in the southern port of Toulon. Pierre and Jeanne each had children, but relatives refused to say how many. Some reports said Fourcade had 27 great-grandchildren.
