Chiyono Hasegawa [Japanese: 長谷川チヨノ] (20 November 1896 — 2 December 2011) was a Japanese supercentenarian. Aged 115 years, 12 days at the time of her death, she was the oldest living validated person in Japan (since the death of Kama Chinen on 2 May 2010), and was also the oldest living validated person in Asia. She was the second-oldest validated living person in the world, behind American woman Besse Cooper. At the time of her death, Hasegawa was one of only 26 validated supercentenarians to have surpassed their 115th birthday, and the second-oldest Japanese person, behind Tane Ikai.

Biography

Chiyono Hasegawa was born in Saga Prefecture, Japan on 20 November 1896.

In September 2008 on Senior Citizen's Day, Chiyono Hasegawa, then 111, and her 61-year-old grandson were visited by Governor Furukawa of Saga Prefecture.

On 2 May 2010, the day she became the oldest validated living Japanese person, Hasegawa attended a ceremony held at her nursing home which announced her new record.

Hasegawa died in Saga Prefecture, Japan on 2 December 2011 at the age of 115 years, 12 days. She is currently the second-oldest validated person ever from Saga Prefecture, behind Shigeyo Nakachi.
