Longevity claimant

Asiye Sutlu (17 April 1899? – 21 March 2024) was a Turkish longevity claimant who claimed to be the world's oldest living person.

Biography

Asiye Sutlu was allegedly born on 17 April 1899 in Sirvan, Sirvan District, Siirt Province, Ottoman Empire (now Turkey). Her husband died 45 years ago, when she was "73". She had 41 grandchildren and was cared for by her daughter-in-law, Zinnet.

Sutlu reportedly suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure. She claimed the reason for her alleged longevity is "eating organic food”.

Sutlu passed away in Kocyigit [Turkish: Koçyiğit], Hizan District, Bitlis Province, Turkey, on 21 March 2024, at the claimed age of 124 years and 339 days.

Age issues

Sutlu didn't have any original proof of her birth. The only documentation supporting her claimed age is a recently-issued Turkish identity card. If her age were validated, she would be the world's oldest validated person. When she went to limbo, that title was held by Kane Tanaka of Japan, according to the Gerontology Research Group.
