Biography[]

Bertha Belflower was born Bertha Lee Robinson in Berrien, Georgia, USA to parents David Melton Robinson and Malissa Matilda (née Bennett) Robinson on 14 January 1907. She had 14 siblings, who were all older than her. She grew up on the family farm.

On 3 August 1924, at the age of 17, she married George Irmon Belflower, who was born almost exactly two years before her on 21 January 1905. The young couple lived in Tifton, Georgia, where their two sons Milton Luther and Kenneth George were born on 15 April 1926 and 29 January 1929 respectively. The family later moved to Valdosta, Georgia, where the boys grew up, and later joined the Navy and the Army during World War II.

George and Bertha later moved to St. Simons Island, Georgia, where they lived until George's death on 7 November 1959 aged 54, after 35 years of marriage. Bertha remained in St. Simons Island until a couple of years later, when she moved to Plant City, Hillsborough, Florida to be nearer her sister Arizona Lipsey.

At the age of 96, she sold the home she had been living in since the early 1960s, and moved in with her sons Kenneth and Milton, the latter passing away on 15 December 2013 aged 87, following a long battle with Parkinson's.

Belflower lived in Bartow, Polk, Florida. She died on 30 October 2017, aged 110 years, 289 days.
