Frieda Borchert (née Sperling; 5 January 1897 – 22 June 2008) was a validated German supercentenarian who was the oldest living person in Germany from the death of Elsa Tauser on 6 October 2007 until her own death on 22 June 2008 at the age of 111 years, 169 days.
Biography
Frieda Borchert was born on 5 January 1897 in Guscht, Pomerania as the only girl of 6 siblings. During her childhood she worked on the family’s farm until she went to Berlin. There she met her first husband she had a son with in 1936. They owned a butcher's shop until the family moved back to Borchert’s parents where they lived with until the expansion in 1945. Back in Berlin, her husband died in consequence of a heart attack in 1949. In 1975 her son died. All in all, Borchert was married two times having a son and a daughter. She worked a housekeeper in the British Protectorate until she was age 70. Around 95 she moved into a nursing home.
At age 108 she was reported to spend most of her time in a wheel chair, suffering from bad hearing and bad eyesight.
Frieda Borchert died on 22 June 2008 at age 111 years, 169 days. She was Germany’s oldest living person. She was preceded in death by 110-year-old Emma Joisten.
Her case was validated by the Gerontology Research Group on 8 January 2015.
