Garland Herbert "Herb" Adair (30 July 1898 – 11 December 2009) was an American supercentenarian who was, at the time of his death, one of the last three surviving males born in the 1800s and was the second-oldest living man in the United States, behind 113-year-old Walter Breuning, and overall the third-oldest in the world (behind Jiroemon Kimura and Walter Breuning). He was also the last surviving male born in 1898.

Biography[]

Garland Adair was born in Hatfield, Harrison County, Missouri, USA on 30 July 1898, He was the son of Charles and Julia Adair. Adair had a brother and three sisters. He had a banking career, he worked at Bethany Trust Co. and resigned as the Executive Vice President in 1969. He married Edith Underwood (1900-1983) in 1922 and they remained married until her death. He was survived by his son Charles, three grandchildren: Katherine, Kelly and Karin, and three great-grandchildren: Alex, Alexandra and Margo. On 16 August 2008, he surpassed the age of Ardra King and became the oldest man ever from Missouri.

Adair died in Bethany, Missouri, USA, on 11 December 2009 at age 111 years, 134 days. He is the oldest validated man ever from the U.S. state of Missouri.
