Haruno Shimada [Japanese: 島田ハルノ] (24 December 1857 – 31 December 1969) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Haruno Shimada was born in Japan on 24 December 1857. Her father lived to be 91, and her mother lived to be 88. At the time of her death, she had 5 living children, 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 32 great-great-grandchildren.
Haruno Shimada died in Asahi Village (now Murakami), Niigata Prefecture, Japan, on 31 December 1969, at the age of 112 years, 7 days. Western media erroneously reported her age at death as 116, but Japanese media stated she died aged 112.

Haruno Shimada may have been the world's oldest person from the death of Marie Bernatkova on 4 May 1969 to her own death of 31 December 1969, being older than Ada Roe (who would be her successor).
