Lillian Adelle Moore (née Kerns) (17 August 1889 – 19 December 1999) was an American supercentenarian who was one of the oldest people in Michigan at the time of her death. Her case is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Lillian Moore was born Lillian Adelle Kerns in Branch, Michigan, USA, on 17 August 1889. She was one of four daughters born to William and Ellen (née Lyon) Kerns. Her siblings were Daisy, Erma, and Amy.
On 20 August 1908, three days after her 19th birthday, Lillian married Lewis Moore and had 3 children with him: Lynn (born 1910), Mildred (born 1913), and Carl (born 1916). Their son Lynn sadly passed away in 1921 at the age of 10. Mildred (married Goodman) and Carl, however, were still alive at the time of their mother's death. From 1913 to 1966, Lewis and Lillian managed the family farm in Quincy Township.
Lillian had several other jobs, including a receptionist and bookkeeper for a Coldwater doctor, working in a flour mill and a bakery, the Branch County Agricultural Agent's assistant for 4 years. Lillian and her husband were active members of the Quincy Methodist Church. Lillian served as the Primary Department's Sunday School Superintendent. She also took classes at Ferris State Teachers College while her husband Lewis took classes to renew his teaching license.
Lillian was a member of quite a few other groups. These were the Women's Society of Christian Service, the Farm Bureau (of which she was a lifetime member), and the County Extension. She was also the Quincy Township Treasurer for a time. Her hobbies included crafts, sewing, baking and playing and teaching the piano. She was always ready to help a community member if necessary, such as giving them a Sunday dinner.
In 1966, Lillian moved to Traverse City, Michigan. Her husband, Lewis Moore, had passed away in November 1965 after 57 years of marriage. In Traverse City, Lillian became members of two more organisations: the Central United Methodist Church and the Central's Naomi Circle. She served 10 years as a volunteer for the Service With Love program. She had developed a reputation amongst her friends for her homemade cookies, as well as her great skills in Scrabble.
Lillian Moore passed away in Munson Medical Center, Traverse City, Michigan, USA, on 19 December 1999, at the age of 110 years, 124 days. At the time of her death, she had two living children, four living grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
