Maria Luiza Beires Nunes da Silva [Portuguese: Luíza] (7 July 1898 – 26 September 2011) was a validated Portuguese supercentenarian who was 113 years, 81 days at her death. She was the oldest living person in Portugal.
Biography
Maria Luiza Nunes da Silva was born in the parish of Nevogilde, Porto, Porto District, Portugal on 7 July 1898.
Her father was from Cacia, Aveiro District and her mother was from the parish of Cedofeita, Porto, Porto District.
Nunes da Silva exercised everyday and was reported to be in good health, although she was in a wheelchair most of the time. She resided in Lisbon with a daughter of hers. Nunes da Silva also had 12 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren at the time of her death.
She became the oldest known living woman in Portugal on 2 January 2009 following the death of Maria de Jesus, who at 115 years, 114 days that was the oldest verified living person worldwide. With the death of Antonio de Castro on the 22 June 2009 at the age of 111 years, 167 days, she became the oldest known living person from Portugal.
She died in Lisbon, Lisbon District, Portugal on 26 September 2011 at the age of 113 years, 81 days, and was the 15th-oldest person in the world at the time of her death.
Nunes da Silva currently is the 4th-oldest Portuguese person ever, behind Maria de Jesus, Maria do Couto Maia-Lopes and Maria da Encarnacao Sousa.
