Biography

Marcelle Narbonne was born in Isserville, French Algeria on 25 March 1898.[1][2] She worked as a shorthand typist for much of her life. In 1962 she moved to mainland France when Algeria gained its independence from the French. Shortly after in 1963, Narbonne retired. She never married and had no children.

Narbonne lived with her younger sister until her death at the age of 95 in 1999. From there, Narbonne moved to Capucines a retirement home in Argelès-Sur-Mer. On her 112th birthday in 2010, Narbonne was reported to be physically weak and walked short distances. She enjoyed poetry, a glass of champagne, and ate on her own. She was on no medications and spoke very little by the time of her death.[2]

She died in Argeles-Sur-Mer, France on 1 January 2012 at the age of 113 years, 282 days.
