Marta Kallas (26 December 1904 – 31 May 2014) was an Estonian-Australian centenarian.

Biography

Marta Kallas was born in Keila, Estonia on 26 December 1904. In 1927, at the age of 22, she arrived in Australia with her uncle and his family due to Russian and German occupation. In 1941, at the age of 36, she moved from Paddington to Lane Cove and then to Longueville, near Sydney. She married and got two children; Asta and Harold, who died in 2005.

According to her daughter Asta, she reached such an advanced age due to having a country diet and fresh air while she was growing up as well as hard work. At the age of 98 in 2003, she went back to her birth country Estonia for the first time since leaving as a young woman.

Marta Kallas died in Longueville, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on 31 May 2014 at the age of 109 years, 155 days, making her the oldest Estonian-born person ever, until Ottilie-Armilde Tinnuri surpassed her final age in 2023. At the time of her death, she was the fourth-oldest known living person in New South Wales (behind Jane Gray, Vi Robbins, Catherine Wilson), and the seventh-oldest known living person in Australia, behind Jane Gray, Vi Robbins, Ethel Farrell, Ada Furby, Catherine Wilson, Annie Violet Feil.

She was survived by her daughter Asta, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
