Mitsue Nagasaki [Japanese: 長崎ミツヱ] (18 September 1899 – 17 June 2013) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of death, she was the second-oldest living person in Japan, behind Misao Okawa (1898–2015). She was one of the last 10 individuals born in the 1800s.

Biography[]

Mitsue Nagasaki was born in Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan on 18 September 1899. She moved to Kure during the Taisho era. She married, and had a son.

In her 90s, Nagasaki was still taking a walk every day. At the age of 98, she was still able to go to Kumamoto City alone. Around 2006, her legs began to become weak.

Following the death of 112-year-old Hiro Nakae on 19 August 2011, Nagasaki became the oldest living person in Hiroshima Prefecture. Her age was verified by Tom Li and MHLW, Japan, and validated by the GRG on 17 September 2011.

In September 2012, shortly before her 113th birthday, Nagasaki was visited by Kazutoshi Komura, the mayor of Kure. At the time, she was living with her son. She hadn't any illness, and wasn't taking any medication. She spent most of the time sleeping in her bed.

Following the death of 116-year-old Jiroemon Kimura on 12 June 2013, Nagasaki became the second-oldest living person in Japan, after Misao Okawa.

Mitsue Nagasaki died of senility in Kure, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan on 17 June 2013, at the age of 113 years, 272 days. She was the last surviving Japanese person born in 1899. Following her death, Misao Okawa became the last surviving Japanese person born in the 1800s.
