Frances Bartels (née Gordon; 7 May 1906 – 23 November 2016) was an American supercentenarian who is currently unverified.
Frances was born as Frances Ellen Gordon, on 7 May 1906 in Mount Vernon, Ohio, to Joseph and Bertha Gordon. She was the middle child with a younger brother, William, and an older sister, Josephine. Her parents were farmers, and the family moved to California in 1925. Her ancestors are British-Welsh and came to the states in the 1600s. Bartels grew up in the “horse and buggy” days. The family didn’t get a car until Frances was in high school. In high school, Bartels met her future husband, Carl Bartels. He asked her to marry him before the family moved to California, but she said no.
Carl Bartels ended up following his love to California with two weeks to spare, and the couple married in 1926. They had two daughters, Madeliene and Jacqueline (born 1930). The family had a ranch in the Bay Area, living mostly in Sunol, Alameda County. In 1974, Carl and Frances moved to Jamestown and had a cattle ranch. She rode horses until the last horse died.
Frances passed away on 23 November 2016, at the age of 110 years, 200 days.
