Giovanni Frau (29 December 1890 – 19 June 2003) was an Italian supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). He is the second-oldest validated Italian man ever, behind Antonio Todde, and is one of the top 30 oldest validated men of all time.

Biography[]

Giovanni Frau was born in Orroli, Sardinia, Italy on 29 December 1890. He married and had eight children. His wife died in 1995 at the age of 90.

He became the oldest known living man in Italy, following the death of 112-year-old Antonio Todde on 3 January 2002.

He became the oldest known living person in Italy, following the death of 113-year-old Teresa Fumarola on 14 May 2003.

Frau died in Sardinia, Italy on 19 June 2003 at the age of 112 years, 172 days. He was survived by two sons and one daughter. At the time of his death, he was the fourth-oldest living man in the world, behind Yukichi Chuganji, Joan Riudavets, Fred Hale.

Following his death, then-111-year-old Virginia Dighero-Zolezzi became the oldest known living person in Italy and then-109-year-old Pasquale Frasconi became the oldest known living man in Italy.
