Biography

Marie Dorval was born Marie Le Page on 5 October 1906 in Lennon, Finistere, France, as the eighth of nine children. At the age of 10, in 1916, she moved with her family to Laz, also in Finistere, where her parents took over a farm owned by the Marquis de La Feronnays, located on the current estate of Trevanez. In 1925, Marie moved to Chateauneuf-du-Faou, again in Finistere.

In May 1930, she married Jean Dorval and had one child with him, a son named Henri, in 1939. On 29 September 1944, the family moved to Les Fontaines in Chateauneuf, and ran a farm together until their retirement in 1961, shortly after Marie's 55th birthday.

Jean passed away in 1977 after 47 years of marriage. Marie, now a widow, lived alone for almost three decades until a fire destroyed her house on 1 September 2005, a month before her 99th birthday. She moved to a nearby retirement home after the fire. On her 111th birthday in 2017, she had two grandchildren, Pierre and Anne, and two great-grandchildren, Arnaud and Paul.

Marie Dorval passed away on 13 October 2017 in Finistere, Brittany, France, at the age of 111 years, 8 days.
