Biography
Early Life
Bradley was born on 12 September 1889 in Keighley, West Yorkshire, England. She had two brothers and two sisters and grew up on the family farm. It was reported that all of her siblings lived to be nonagenarians.
In 1914, Bradley married her childhood sweetheart, James Bradley, while he was serving as a vet with the artillery regiment in the First World War. In the 1920s, the couple moved to Shipley, West Yorkshire, where James Bradley set up his own veterinary practice. They had four children: John, Mary, James, and Ralph.
Later Life
Following her husband's death in 1966, Bradley continued to live alone in Burley-in-Wharfedale, West Yorkshire. At the age of 95, she suffered multiple injuries, including a broken pelvis, after walking in front of a car. She subsequently moved in to a nursing home in Silsden, West Yorkshire. She died on 11 March 2002 at the age of 112 years, 180 days.
Longevity Records
Bradley became the oldest living person in the United Kingdom following the death of 114 year-old Amy Hulmes on 27 October 2001, as well as the last surviving British person born in the 1880s. In fact, it is believed that she also outlived every British person born in 1890 as well. Following her death, Gladys Hawley became the UK's oldest living person.
Bradley, Japanese supercentenarian Gozei Taba, and American supercentenarian Martha Williams were the first set of three supercentenarians with the same birth date.
