Ruth Mildred Andreasen (née Poppen) (8 February 1903 – 8 March 2013) was an American supercentenarian whose age is currently pending by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She was the second-oldest known person in Minnesota at the time of her death, behind Anna Stoehr.

Biography

Ruth Andreasen was born Ruth Mildred Poppen on 8 February 1903 in Parkersburg, Iowa, USA to parents John and Mary (née Johnson) Poppen. She had two siblings named Margaret and Harold. At the age of six, she and her family moved to a farm in Stewartville, Minnesota. After finishing school, she helped on the family farm.

On 28 March 1923, aged 20, Ruth married James George Andreasen (b. 6 May 1890), a World War 1 veteran, and had three children with him: Norbert (1925-2015), Gordon, and Jane (married Hoeft). The couple became farmers and owned various farms until their retirement in 1969. James passed away on 4 October 1985, aged 95, after 62 years of marriage.

Ruth was a longtime member of several organisations, including the United Methodist Church in Stewartville (and it's United Methodist Women's group) and the Home Economics Club in Stewartville. She enjoyed handiwork, especially crocheting, gardening and spending time with family and friends. In November 2006, aged 103, she moved into a nursing home where she lived for the rest of her life.

Ruth Andreasen passed away on 8 March 2013 at the age of 110 years, 28 days. She was survived by her three children, nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
