Serop Mirzoyan (1 July 1906 – 14 November 2014) was an Ottoman-Dutch centenarian who was the oldest known living man in the Netherlands at the time of his death.
Biography
Mirzoyan was born in Diyarbakir in the Ottoman Empire, now Turkey on 1 July 1906. His parents were Armenians, and they fled to Iraq during the Armenian Genocide. He worked as a farmer in Iraqi Kurdistan. He moved to the Netherlands in 1996 to be with his daughter. He only remembered his year of birth, and 1 July was selected as his alleged birthday. Mirzoyan spoke Armenian, Arabic, and Kurdish, but learned Dutch by reading the Bible.
Serop celebrated his 100th birthday in 2006 described as "surprisingly cheerful". He became the oldest living man in the Netherlands, following the death of 106-year old Tjeerd Epema on 1 April 2013.
Mirzoyan died in the Oldebroek, Gelderland, Netherlands on 14 November 2014 at the age of 108 years, 136 days. Following his death, then 107-year old Floor van Cleemputte became the oldest living Dutch man.
